The area is a must see if for only viewing the valley itself. The valley is the oldest geological formation in Cuba. The mogotes (eroded limestone mountains) are the main attraction and date back to a plateau located here 160 million years ago.
The little village is one of the most alluring in all of Cuba. There are several sites that may interest the traveler. Exhibitions of contemporary Cuban paintings are displayed at the Galeria de Arte. The Museo Municipal de Vinales Adela Azcuy contains a small collections of articles related to the history of the village. Cultural activities for the village are organized at the Casa de Cultura. North of Vinales there are many caves that are fun to visit for refreshment and history. The caves were used by the natives as a refuge after the Spanish landed on Cuba. |
