Sacra Cathedral Ortodoxa de San Nicolas de mira. Byzantine temple in Old Havana of the XXI century, inaugurated in 2004 for Its All Sanctity Bartolomeo, Ecumenical Patriarch.
Located in one of the ends of the Garden Madre Teresa de Calcuta, in the back part of the Convent of San Francisco de Asís, the Sacred Orthodox Cathedral of San Nicolás de Mira was consecrated in January 25, 2004
The facade of the temple is recovered by stone with red tiles in the roofs. Their external aspect is austere and in him they highlight some Byzantine icons and its fronton. As in all the Byzantine churches, the biggest artistic interest concentrates on the interior space, decoration with reproductions of old chandeliers, simulations of paintings murals, mosaics and true icons that represent apostles, prophets, saints and bishops of the primitive church.
The iconostasio stands out, kind of a partition that - decorated with icons - it separates to the faithful of the sacrarium and the altar, this last fact in marble for the Cuban sculptor Juan Quintanilla.
In the consecration ceremony it was present the Cuban President Fidel Castro Ruz and other personalities.
